1. Who We Are

This website is operated by Automation World (automationworld.co), a UK Industrial Automation Directory connecting buyers with automation suppliers and integrators.

For privacy enquiries, please contact us at: [email protected]

2. What Data We Collect and Why

2.1 Project Matcher Submissions

If you use our Project Matcher tool to find automation suppliers, we collect the following information when you choose to submit an introduction request or save your shortlist:

  • Your name and email address
  • Project details: sector, automation challenges, approximate budget, project timeline, UK region, and an optional free-text project description

Why we collect this: We collect this data on the basis of legitimate interest — specifically, to deliver the service you’ve requested (generating a supplier shortlist and sending you the results) and to follow up with relevant information about your project.

We use your email address to:

  • Send you a confirmation email containing your matched supplier shortlist
  • Send a brief follow-up email at 7 days and 21 days after your submission (only if you have given explicit consent for this at the time of submission)

Your submission data is also stored securely in our database so that we can manage and broker supplier introductions on your behalf if you request this.

No personal data from your submission is shared with suppliers directly. All introductions are managed by the Automation World admin team. Suppliers are not given your contact details unless and until an introduction is brokered by us.

2.2 ROI Calculator

When you use our ROI calculator, we keep the figures you enter and the results, without any information that identifies you, to understand typical automation projects. If you ask for the PDF report or an emailed copy, we keep your email address with those figures so we can follow up. We keep these records for 24 months

2.3 Analytics (Umami)

We use Umami Analytics to understand how visitors use this website. Umami is a privacy-focused analytics platform. It does not use cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not collect any personally identifiable information. No data is shared with advertising networks or third parties.

The data Umami collects is limited to anonymised, aggregated information such as page views, referral sources, and general device/browser type. This data cannot be used to identify you.

Because Umami does not use cookies or process personal data, it does not require your consent under UK GDPR. It will load for all visitors regardless of cookie preferences.

2.4 Intent Tracking (Browsing Behaviour)

We use a lightweight intent tracker to record which automation categories you have browsed during your visit. This data is stored only in your own browser (using localStorage) and is never transmitted to our servers or any third party. It is used solely to provide a more relevant experience if you use the Project Matcher.

This tracking uses localStorage and falls under the Statistics cookie category. It will only activate if you accept the Statistics category in our cookie consent banner.

2.5 Cookies

We use Complianz to manage cookie consent on this website. Complianz itself sets a small number of functional cookies to remember your consent preferences. These are strictly necessary and do not require your consent.

2.6 Supplier Profiles

We count visits to supplier profiles in aggregate. We don’t store personal data for this.

4. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct any inaccurate data
  • Erase your data (the right to be forgotten)
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interest
  • Withdraw consent for follow-up emails at any time

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

5. Who We Share Data With

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data.

Your data may be shared with:

  • Fasthosts — our hosting provider, who stores data on servers located in the UK/EEA
  • Easy WP SMTP — used to route transactional emails (confirmation and follow-up emails) from our WordPress installation

We do not currently use any third-party CRM, email marketing platform, or data broker. If this changes, this policy will be updated and you will be informed.

6. Data Security

All personal data is stored securely within our WordPress database. We use standard WordPress security hardening practices, including:

  • Input validation and sanitisation on all form submissions
  • Rate limiting on public-facing form endpoints
  • Nonce verification on all form and AJAX requests
  • Restricted admin access

Emails containing commercially sensitive information are routed only to our internal admin address and are never sent directly to suppliers.

7. Third-Party Links

Our website contains links to supplier websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those external sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies before submitting any personal information.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. For significant changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify users.
